Inserting Objects

This free-standing article will explain what is behind the individual buttons in the Objects group in the Insert tab and will document the types of file format supported in the pCon.planner and pCon.planner PRO Open, Import, Save and Export functions. The actual insert procedure for 3D objects, pictures, text and so on will be covered in different free-standing articles. The insert procedure for OFML articles is covered in the Configuring objects free-standing article.

What sort of objects can be inserted?

From the Insert tab in the Objects group, a large number of elements can be inserted into the plan. The following table lists these.

Button

Description

Catalog

Clicking this button gives access to the OFML catalogs and data you have installed locally; also to the Configurator. This function is only available in the PRO version of pCon.planner. OFML is a standardized file format for furniture.

pCon.catalog

pCon.catalog is an online service which provides various pieces of furniture and materials in a huge variety of formats ready for download. There is both graphic and geometrical data in the catalog.

3D-Warehouse

This button takes you to Google’s 3D Warehouse. The elements in the warehouse are in SKP (SketchUp) format.

Object

This import dialog is also accessible from the Import item in the Application menu and it enables you to import a variety of geometrical, OFML and graphic data.

Comment

You can insert a Comment into your plan and edit it simply by clicking on this button.

Picture

This allows you to insert pictures from your local system. The formats supported are png, jpg, tiff, gif, bmp and tga.

Shape

This button takes you to the EasternGraphics 2D shapes catalog. Among other shapes there are title blocks, pictograms and furniture symbols.

Text

You can insert Text into your plan and edit it simply by clicking on this button.

What formats are supported by pCon.planner and pCon.planner PRO?

Both pCon.planner and pCon.planner PRO work primarily with the DWG format. As shown in the four tables below, a number of 2D and 3D formats are supported.
